The Hierophant upright
The Hierophant is the keeper of tradition and shared wisdom. He appears when there is value in learning from those who have walked the path before you, whether that means a teacher, a mentor, a course or a long-standing institution. This card favours doing things properly and following proven methods rather than reinventing the wheel. It can also point to ceremonies, commitments and belonging to a group with shared values. If you are unsure how to proceed, ask someone with experience. Structure and guidance can give you a sturdy base to grow from.
The Hierophant reversed
Reversed, the Hierophant challenges the rules you have been following. Perhaps a tradition no longer fits who you are, or you feel pressure to conform to expectations that do not suit you. This card supports healthy questioning and finding your own way, as long as you are rebelling towards something rather than simply against everything. It can also warn against blindly trusting an authority figure or a fixed way of thinking. Keep what still serves you from the old ways, and be brave enough to let the rest go. Your own values deserve a voice.
